AMLC REPORTS 666 COVERED, 55 SUSPICIOUS TRANSACTIONS LINKED TO DUTERTE-CARPIO
MANILA — A total of 666 covered transaction reports (CTRs) and 55 suspicious transaction reports (STRs) involving Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, were presented by the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) during Day 33 of the impeachment trial on Monday, Oct. 5.
AMLC Executive Director Ronel Buenaventura said the transactions linked to the Duterte-Carpio couple amounted to about ₱4.4 billion from 2007 to 2025.
After removing duplicate entries involving their joint accounts, the AMLC summary placed the total at ₱4.400 billion. Of this amount, around ₱1.63 billion was recorded as money coming in, ₱1.31 billion as money going out, while about ₱1.46 billion could not be identified as either inflow or outflow based on the records presented.
For Sara Duterte alone, the AMLC recorded 373 CTRs and 34 STRs, involving about ₱3.73 billion in reported transactions.
For Carpio, the records showed 363 CTRs and 30 STRs, amounting to about ₱749.9 million.
The AMLC figures were presented as part of the prosecution’s evidence for Article II of the impeachment complaint, which involves allegations of unexplained wealth and incomplete or inaccurate declarations of assets.
Defense lawyer Mark Vinluan questioned the disclosure of the AMLC records, citing confidentiality provisions under the Anti-Money Laundering Act. Buenaventura, however, said the AMLC was complying with the law, its internal rules, and the impeachment court’s order to produce the records.
The presentation of the financial records is ongoing, and the figures themselves do not by themselves establish that the transactions were illegal or constitute unexplained wealth.
